Dental Inlays and Onlays |
|
The Inlays and Onlays are two methods of restoring normal tooth structure after decay. Inlays and Onlays can be made from porcelain, gold, or composite or ceramic resin, although porcelain is now becoming the material of choice because of its strength and potential to match the natural color of your tooth. Inlays and Onlays are commonly known as indirect fillings because they are made in a laboratory and cemented or bonded to the surface of the tooth during a second visit to the dentist. This type of restoration actually strengthens tooth structure. Onlays are used when tooth damage is more extensive. In Onlay, new structure will cover the entire chewing surface including one or more tooth cusps.
